Beihe Tian

A Leading Bassist of China’s Post-00s Generation

Born in 2001, Beihe Tian graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music under Professor Zhu Haiming, and later earned her master’s degree from Berklee College of Music. She has also studied extensively with world-renowned bassists including Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, and Gary Willis.

In 2022, she formed the SEDAR Trio with acclaimed Chinese musicians Qin Sifeng and Wu Yongheng, releasing their self-titled debut album the same year. The album went on to win Best Instrumental Recording Album at the 34th Golden Melody Awards in July 2023.

As one of the most prominent young jazz bassists in China, Beihe Tian is active across performance, recording, and live stage work. Her music centers on instrumental expression, highlighting improvisation and abstract aesthetics, and she collaborates frequently with leading jazz musicians across the country.

Recognized as a representative figure of China’s new jazz generation, she was also invited to participate in a special interview series by BLANCPAIN spotlighting notable jazz musicians.
