
Demo Zhao
Bassist | Recording Engineer | Music Producer
Demo Zhao is an active bassist in both live performances and recording studios across the Chinese music scene, with a versatile repertoire spanning pop, rock, jazz and other genres.
He began studying electric bass under Yan Wei in 2001 and graduated from Shenyang Conservatory of Music in 2005. Early in his career, he immersed himself in record production and engineering, working at Yilong Studio, One Space Studio and Seda Music in Beijing, where he served as a recording engineer, studio manager and music production director successively.
In 2007, he joined Lao Lang’s band and has been touring and performing at major music festivals long-term. In 2017, he founded the band Dear Sugi and completed the recording of their debut album. In 2018, he joined Qin Sifeng’s Sedar Band and performed in numerous jazz concerts nationwide.
With over two decades of professional experience, Demo Zhao is known for his solid and musical bass style. He has contributed to numerous influential Chinese music recordings, collaborating with artists including Faye Wong, Andy Lau, Eason Chan, Wang Feng, Wang Yibo, Jackson Yee, Jason Zhang, Zhou Shen, Tan Weiwei, Huang Qishan and Lisa Ono.
His representative works include the three-album Xiaoxia series by Huang Qishan, Strange Hat by Guan Zhe, the self-titled album by Dear Sugi, as well as hit singles such as Lonely Warrior, Cage and Mom and Daughter.
He has also appeared frequently on major Chinese television platforms including Hunan TV, Beijing TV, Zhejiang TV and Dragon TV, participating in hit variety shows including I Am a Singer and King Cross, as well as numerous New Year’s galas and Spring Festival galas.
